In the section of the Trolebus Chalco-Santa Martha, there has been an increase in violence due to robberies on public transportation, which adds to the concerns in the area. An area known as La Virgen or El Basurero is particularly conflictive, with constant criminal activities from robbers aboard the buses traveling towards Mexico City.
Early this Thursday, March 13, ChalcoSin Censura reported a robbery on one of the SMA buses, perpetrated by four individuals, two of whom boarded the unit from the base and the other two joined at the return bridge on the Mexico-Puebla highway. The attack took place on unit 557, in the Las Bombas area, where the criminals intimidated passengers by shooting in the air, with the complicity of the driver, who turned off the bus lights during the robbery.
Although no injuries were reported due to gunfire, images of the robbed bus on the Trolebus Chalco-Santa Martha route were captured. In an attempt to address this issue, the Government of the State of Mexico, under the leadership of Delfina Gómez Álvarez, launched the "Safe Passenger" operation, in collaboration with the Secretary of the Navy, the State Police, and the State Attorney General's Office (FGJEM).
The mentioned operation aimed to ensure the safety of passengers in the Trolebus Chalco-Santa Martha area, near the La Concordia bridges. However, this action has not effectively contained the wave of robberies. The traffic congestion on the Mexico-Puebla highway has caused discomfort among citizens. Amid this situation, social media reported another robbery of passengers on a public transport unit from Santa María Aztahuacán, where four armed criminals stripped citizens of their belongings.
Despite the efforts of security operations, such as inspections of passengers and their belongings in search of firearms, carried out at different points in the municipality of Valle de Chalco, robberies continue to occur in areas like La Virgen, La Gasera, or El Basurero, located on the Mexico-Puebla highway. These incidents continue to represent a challenge for authorities in the fight against crime in the region.
