Reforms in ISSSTE Allow for Extension of Work Hours

The General Director of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Martí Batres, announced that the agency will implement internal reforms allowing health workers to voluntarily extend their work hours from 6 or 6.5 hours to 8 hours a day. These changes were requested by the workers themselves and will affect approximately 26,400 ISSSTE employees, which represents almost 80% of the workers currently working shorter hours. Martí Batres explained that it is estimated that around 80% of the 33,000 health workers at ISSSTE with schedules between 6 and 6.5 hours are willing to extend their workday to 8 hours. Those who decide to extend their hours will receive a salary increase. The government will invest around 3.5 billion pesos to cover the salaries of the agency's workers who choose to extend their workday to 8 hours. This investment will benefit specialist doctors, general practitioners, dental surgeons, nurses, paramedics, laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, dentists, among others. For those ISSSTE workers who prefer to maintain their current work hours, their decision will be respected.
