The director of the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba), Dora Robledo, has warned about the crisis situation in Chiapas, which has been exacerbated by armed violence, forced displacement, and lack of attention from the authorities.
In an interview for 'Aristegui en Vivo', Robledo shared the findings of the report titled 'Chiapas in the Spiral of Armed and Criminal Violence', prepared by Frayba. According to the director, the report is based on direct testimonies from the victims, mostly coming from communities, especially from indigenous towns.
Among the themes addressed in the report are forced displacement, forced disappearance, torture, and territorial control exercised by armed groups and private companies since 2021 to the present.
The Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Center has registered at least 15,780 displaced persons, primarily in the border area and in the Highlands of Chiapas. Robledo criticized the fact that, despite the active conflicts, the state government is promoting the tourist image of Chiapas, without addressing the harsh reality being experienced in the region.
In Dora Robledo's words: 'Chiapas is a disaster'. The crisis situation is aggravated by the presence of armed violence, forced displacement, and the authorities' omission to confront the issues.
