Extreme Heat Warning for Mexico

A heat wave is expected across much of Mexico this weekend, with temperatures soaring between 30 and 45 degrees Celsius. Recommendations are provided as this heat is linked to a dry line and low-pressure system. Simultaneously, heavy rains are anticipated in certain areas due to a subtropical jet stream, causing risks of flooding and landslides.

Extreme Heat Warning for Mexico

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) forecasts that during the weekend there will be high temperatures in much of the country, ranging between 30 and 45 degrees Celsius. These conditions are due to a dry line and a low-pressure channel over the northeast of the national territory, combined with an anticyclonic circulation that will maintain a hot to very hot environment with heat waves in several regions.

According to the SMN, states such as Sinaloa, Durango, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Colima could reach extreme temperatures of 40 to 45 degrees. On the other hand, entities like Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, among others, will record temperatures from 35 to 40 degrees.

Regarding rainfall, a subtropical jet stream is expected to generate strong winds in the northern part of the country. Very heavy precipitation, hail, and wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are also forecasted in regions such as Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. Low-pressure channels in the center, east, and southeast of the country, along with the humidity from both oceans, will cause showers and heavy rains in various areas, accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and increased levels of rivers and streams.

Conagua indicated the arrival of cold front 41 through the northern border of Mexico, which, in combination with a dry line over Coahuila and a low-pressure channel in the northeast of the country, will generate strong winds in northern Mexico. Therefore, the population is advised to stay informed about these climatic phenomena and take precautions against the adverse conditions expected in the coming days.
