The general coordinator of C5, Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, expressed that the institution's commitment is to save lives and support mothers in the process of bringing new lives. Since 2018, C5 has provided support in 8,808 births, of which 75% occurred outside the mother's home.
Regarding the distribution of attended births, 35% took place in hospitals, 25.6% in residential homes, 5% on public roads, and 3% in private vehicles or public transport. In the remaining percentage, the birthplace was not specified. Two out of three requests were for natural labor, while the rest corresponded to unforeseen emergencies.
The average response time of C5 medical units is less than 20 minutes after receiving the emergency call. By municipalities, Iztapalapa accounts for 20.7% of reports, followed by Cuauhtémoc (13.8%), Gustavo A. Madero (11.5%), Venustiano Carranza (7.7%), and Álvaro Obregón (7.1%).
Births were mostly reported through the emergency line 911 or through the help buttons distributed throughout the city. In these cases, the Telemedicine medical staff of C5 provides telephone support and guides the birthing process step by step until the arrival of a medical unit.
"Technological tools allow us to provide support in obstetric emergencies. In the capital of the country, technology has become an unexpected ally of childbirth," highlighted the C5 coordinator.
