As part of the Men's Health Month, the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) carried out a urology surgical campaign at the Mérida Clinic Hospital. During the event, 22 beneficiaries aged between 50 and 70 were surgically treated for obstructive prostate growth with favorable clinical results. This strategy is part of the national actions driven by the agency, led by its General Director, Martí Batres Guadarrama, aimed at strengthening comprehensive men's health care and improving the quality of life for the insured population. The director of the second-level medical unit, Raúl Nemias Uc Contreras, explained that the patients treated presented symptoms compatible with prostate obstruction, including bleeding, urinary urgency, and difficulty urinating, which prompted their clinical evaluation and subsequent intervention. After completing preoperative tests, the procedures were scheduled by the surgical team composed of doctors Iván Arturo Velueta Martínez and José Manuel Michel Ramírez, with results considered clinically successful. According to the director, 100% of the surgeries were performed without immediate postoperative complications, which allowed patients to be discharged within a period of 24 to 48 hours, as scheduled in the urology outpatient clinic. The official emphasized that these results reflect the adequate preoperative preparation, as well as the experience of the medical and nursing staff, factors that contribute to a faster and safer recovery. Raúl Nemias Uc Contreras highlighted that the interventions allowed patients to regain their urinary functionality after months of limitations associated with the condition, which translates into substantial improvements in their well-being and daily performance. He also pointed out that these actions position ISSSTE in Yucatán as a resolving unit, capable of responding promptly to surgical needs through strategic service scheduling. The surgeries performed at the 'Mérida' Clinic Hospital are part of the National Surgical Campaigns Strategy, implemented by ISSSTE since 2025, with the objective of reducing waiting times, optimizing hospital resources, and improving the medical care provided to the 13.9 million insured beneficiaries nationwide. With these actions, the Institute reiterated its commitment, in the context of the Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation, to advance towards a more efficient, safe public health system with a focus on the quality of care.
