The governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez, has mandated the use of face masks in all schools across the entity to prevent the spread of measles and other respiratory illnesses that are causing serious health problems in various areas of the country.
She called on educational institutions to responsibly resume mask use and apply health filters from the point of entry, convening inter-institutional coordination with local citizens to prevent a worse scenario.
The latest health report from the Secretary of Health states that the entity has reported 40 measles cases so far, with no deaths among those affected. In these cases, school staff must isolate the person and immediately contact the nearest health unit.
In this context, Governor Gómez appeared in public wearing a mask on Monday and urged prevention against measles. The measures include mandatory mask use for all school staff and students, in both open and closed spaces. Additionally, daily health filters will be set up at the entrances of all state schools to prevent the entry of individuals or students with a temperature above 38°C, red rashes, red eyes, cough, or white spots in the mouth.
