In 2026, the Querétaro municipality has conducted thousands of sterilizations and pet chippings, and facilitated adoptions, strengthening public policy on animal welfare.


Querétaro Municipality Strengthens Animal Welfare Control

During the first part of 2026, the municipality of Querétaro has carried out 14,869 pet sterilizations and implanted 6,411 identification chips, according to information from the Secretariat of Animal Welfare. As part of its services, the agency also revealed that this year, 260 adoptions of dogs and cats have been completed, promoting actions for animal control and care. Among recent actions, the Secretary of Animal Welfare, Lennyz Meléndez, participated in the session of the Thematic Citizen's Council for Animal Welfare, a space for dialogue and collaboration between citizens and government to strengthen public policies in the matter. During the session, progress and proposals related to the 2026 annual work plan were discussed, in addition to reviewing the guiding axes that direct the council's actions: regulatory framework, actions and programs, linkage with the private sector, and dissemination strategies.
