Tabasco Seeks Emergency Declaration After Tropical Storm Damage

The governor of Tabasco, Javier May Rodríguez, has requested the federal government to declare a state of emergency due to the damage caused by tropical storm "Nadine." The municipalities most affected by the floods were Jalapa, Tacotalpa, and Teapa.

According to the governor, fortunately, no human casualties have been reported during this weather event. A house-to-house census will be conducted to assess specific damages and determine what type of aid will be provided to the victims.

Although there is currently no data on infrastructure damage due to the still high water levels, measurements will be carried out once the waters recede. Attention will also be given to the damages in the fields to activate the corresponding insurance.

According to local authorities, more than 600 homes in the three municipalities were affected, and around 250 families were displaced to the 9 shelters available.
