The ABC of EIS is a proposal based on the results of the national survey on comprehensive sexuality education among adolescents conducted in 2023. According to the study, 46% of adolescents have doubts about sexuality, representing half of this age group. Many of them manage to resolve their doubts, but there is still a large percentage that remains unaware of how to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections.
The guide consists of two volumes: the first is a notebook of knowledge and skills covering topics such as gender, sexuality, diversity, sexual and reproductive health, relationships, health skills, violence, safety, and sexual and reproductive rights. The second volume is a workbook with activities designed for peer education.
According to statistics, only 35% of adolescents aged 12 to 19 know that condoms are used to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections, and an even lower proportion use them correctly. The "ABC of EIS" guide is free and available for download.
The contents of this guide were developed by networks of young activists formed by ILSB over two years. This project, called "The Public is Ours," includes the participation of indigenous, Afro-Mexican, and mestizo youth from 16 states in Mexico.
Despite the efforts made, the number of new infections among young people is increasing, highlighting the need for education on prevention topics. 86% of respondents expressed interest in learning about comprehensive sexuality education not only in secondary school but also in primary school.
The Simone de Beauvoir Leadership Institute (ISLB) launched this guide with the aim of helping to understand all aspects related to comprehensive sexuality education, directed at both adolescents and youth, as well as parents, guardians, and educators.
