At the United Nations General Assembly, Pure Earth participated in the launch of the Alliance for a Lead-Free Future, an initiative aimed at eradicating the use of lead, particularly in developing countries, with the goal of achieving this by 2040. The event, led by USAID and UNICEF, provided a space for global leaders to express their commitment to protecting the most vulnerable.
Pure Earth's Vice President of Development, Carol Sumkin, highlighted the importance of leveraging the LEAF grant as a catalyst to mobilize more resources and expand lead mitigation activities. The emergence of the Alliance for a Lead-Free Future represents a call for decisive action, aimed at raising awareness of the devastating harms of lead, especially to children, and intensifying global efforts to combat this threat.
The International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, held from October 20 to 26 under the slogan "A Bright Future Begins Without Lead," marked a significant milestone in the fight against the harmful effects of lead. Pure Earth Mexico reaffirmed its commitment to closely collaborate with various stakeholders to address this crisis that primarily affects the most vulnerable and work towards a safe and healthy environment for children.
The launch of the Lead Exposure Action Fund (LEAF) by Open Philanthropy represents another significant advance in this process. As a recipient of this fund, Pure Earth has the opportunity to focus on measuring and mitigating lead exposure in various countries, thereby helping to protect the health of future generations.
Ongoing support and collaboration, along with the achievements made, drive Pure Earth to continue its collective efforts to end lead poisoning. Participation in relevant events, such as the presentation of the video "Transforming Battery Recycling: Protecting Future Generations," demonstrates the work being done by the organization in countries like Bangladesh, strengthening its commitment to this vital cause.
