Severe Weather Forecast Across Mexico

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a warning about the presence of seven atmospheric phenomena in Mexico this Tuesday, which will bring rain to at least 26 states of the country. Among the highlighted phenomena are the interaction of tropical wave number 29 with a trough at high levels, cold front number six, and a dry line in the north. These conditions will cause rain, strong winds, and a noticeable drop in temperatures in several Mexican states.

According to the SMN, tropical wave 29, moving over southeastern Mexico, will generate intense to very strong rainfall in Quintana Roo and various areas of the southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula. Tropical wave 28 is also expected to move south of the coasts of Colima and Jalisco without affecting the territory. In Quintana Roo, precipitation of up to 75 millimeters is anticipated, while in other regions such as Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatan, strong rains of between 25 and 50 mm are expected.

The SMN also warned about lighter showers, from 5 to 25 mm, in states such as the State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, Michoacán, Guerrero, Morelos, Mexico City, Puebla, Hidalgo, Querétaro, and Tamaulipas. The rains could cause puddles, flooding, landslides, and increase the levels of rivers and streams.

On the other hand, cold front number six, moving over Sonora and Chihuahua, will interact with atmospheric currents, generating winds of up to 90 km/h with dust devils in Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, and Coahuila, as well as gusts of 50 to 70 km/h in other states such as Baja California Sur, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Durango.

Regarding temperatures, a drop to -10 degrees is expected in mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango, and they will remain between -5 and 0 degrees in mountainous regions of Baja California, the State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, and Puebla. On the other hand, maximum temperatures of up to 40 degrees are forecasted in Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, and Colima, as well as 30 to 35 degrees in several other states.
