On Wednesday, October 30, a new type of scam related to the Day of the Dead and Halloween was announced, which operates through text messages. Authorities warn about this new form of fraud that can result in identity theft, personal and financial data theft.

The Cyber Police of Mexico City shared details about this thematic scam that has affected several citizens in different parts of Mexico. The fraud is carried out through messages on messaging apps like Whatsapp, Telegram, or directly on mobile phones.

Citizens receive a message promising "Halloween carnival gifts" and are redirected to a malicious website where they are asked to complete a survey to qualify for prizes like high-end phones.
