New Head of INEA Appointed to Combat Illiteracy

Armando Contreras Castillo was appointed as the head of the National Institute for Adult Education (INEA) by the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, with the instruction to perform his functions with responsibility, commitment, and love for the people. This nomination was handed to him by the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, who expressed his confidence in the work that Contreras will do at the forefront of INEA to combat illiteracy and educational lag in the country.

In this assignment, Mario Delgado Carrillo congratulated Armando Contreras Castillo and wished him success in his tasks, noting that he trusts that under his leadership great results will be achieved in addressing educational lag in Mexico. He highlighted Contreras' commitment and trajectory, emphasizing that his experience as a teacher and his dedication to democratic causes make him ideal to face current educational challenges.

INEA, with 43 years of experience, has served 28 million people in Mexico, but there remains an educational lag that affects 27.5 million individuals in the country. The institution is responsible for providing education to those who cannot read or write, as well as to those who need to complete their primary and secondary education. With national coverage, INEA coordinates its efforts with 26 decentralized state institutes and 6 operational units, successfully rescuing 500,000 people from educational lag each year.

Both Armando Contreras Castillo and Mario Delgado Carrillo agreed on the importance of working as a priority to eradicate illiteracy in Mexico and ensure a homeland free from educational lag.
