New Model for Drug Procurement in Mexico

President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the new Consolidated Procurement Model for Medicines and Medical Supplies 2025-2026 during the press conference on Thursday, October 31. This project aims to optimize and make the acquisition of medicines and materials for the health sector in Mexico more transparent.

According to Sheinbaum, the system seeks to improve the purchase of essential supplies through a more transparent process, involving all the institutions involved and focused on ensuring access to health for the population. One of the main objectives is to obtain better prices for the acquisition of medicines compared to the previous administration.

The consolidated procurement system aims to extend the benefits through a clear process open to the participation of suppliers from all over the country. A key element is the creation of the Public Dissemination and Discussion portal, announced by Eduardo Clark García, Undersecretary of Integration and Development of the Health Sector. This platform will allow suppliers to review, analyze, and propose improvements in the procurement process.

With a budget of 130 billion pesos allocated for the purchase of medicines, Sheinbaum's government seeks to ensure that the health sector has the necessary supplies to provide quality service. This new model promises to transform the procurement process for medicines in Mexico, focusing on transparency, efficiency, and cost reduction for the benefit of the population.

The digital tool promotes greater collaboration between the government and companies and seeks to reduce potential corruption issues. The new scheme includes not only the consolidated purchase of medicines but also the digitization of procedures, which will expedite the acquisition of required pharmaceuticals in health institutions.
