The Health Secretary of a state has announced that an alleged psychiatrist, Marilyn Coteno, faces administrative sanctions for operating an office without being accredited as a doctor nor having the necessary documentation. If she fails to meet the required conditions, she could face monetary fines or even a arrest of up to 36 hours.
The state governor, Sergio Céspedes, has asked the Legal Counsel to review the responsibility of municipalities in the issuance of licenses for health services. The aim is to ensure that health professionals possess the corresponding professional license before operating medical offices.
The Health Secretary has mentioned that the psychiatrist in question did not follow the established procedure to obtain the operating license. Therefore, the office remains closed until Coteno presents the documentation supporting her professional training.
In a press conference, the head of the Health Secretary, Araceli Soria Córdoba, pointed out that any doctor wishing to open an office must comply with the requirements of the Directorate of Health Risk Protection. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the permanent closure of the establishment and corresponding sanctions.
The situation has generated the need to thoroughly review the process of obtaining operating licenses in the medical field to ensure that all legal requirements are met. In this specific case, it is expected that Coteno will present her degree and professional license in time to avoid additional sanctions.
