Specialists from the General Hospital of Mexico (HGM) call on the population with obesity or risk factors to undergo diabetes detection tests. Dr. González Chávez emphasizes the importance of diagnosing the disease in time to start effective treatment as soon as possible. It is emphasized that diabetes and obesity are real problems that impact entire families.
The Clinic for Comprehensive Care of the Patient with Obesity (C.A.I.D.O) of HGM stresses the need to prevent diabetes as key in the fight against this disease, which has become a public health concern in Mexico. With more than 12 million Mexicans affected, the country ranks fifth in the world in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes, according to data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), which can lead to serious complications if not controlled.
Type 2 diabetes, which represents more than 90% of cases in Mexico, manifests when the body does not effectively use insulin. A detection day will be held on November 14 to highlight the importance of prevention in public health.
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, HGM invites the population to participate in this detection testing day, underscoring the importance of early diagnosis. The C.A.I.D.O Clinic offers a multidisciplinary approach that combines medical, nutritional, and psychological care to address obesity and diabetes, considering that obesity is a significant risk factor in the development of diabetes.
Dr. Olivia Pech and other specialists from HGM warn that many patients may not show symptoms in the early stages of type 2 diabetes. It is highlighted that a healthy lifestyle and timely medical intervention can make a difference in the quality of life of those suffering from this disease. Symptoms such as excessive thirst, fatigue, and blurred vision may appear when diabetes is more advanced.
Antonio González Chávez and Dr. Olivia Pech emphasize that prevention is the best tool to combat diabetes and improve the quality of life for those affected.
