Proposal to Protect Orphaned Children due to Feminicide

In 2021, the National Protocol for Comprehensive Care of Girls, Boys and Adolescents in Conditions of Orphanhood due to Feminicide was implemented. However, according to Deputy Vitela Rodríguez, three years after its creation, only 41 minors have received all the subsidies and support established by this protocol.

The proposal to amend Article 47 of the General Law of Access of Women to a Life Free of Violence seeks to ensure that in cases of feminicide, the Attorney General's Office registers orphaned minors and that federal entities develop a registry with information about minors affected by this crime. This would allow for the definition of public policies for the restoration of their rights.

The deputy's initiative aims to advance the protection of the rights of minors who become orphaned due to gender-based violence, and who have not yet received the necessary attention. It is essential to have a clear and specific registry of these children to provide them with the comprehensive protection they require.

According to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, between December 2018 and January 2024, 4,817 feminicides have been recorded in Mexico. In 2023, approximately one in four murders of women was categorized as feminicide, according to the Peace Index. The Ibero-American University of Puebla indicates that at least 1,053 minors have been orphaned due to feminicides, with a 127% increase in 2022 compared to 2015.
