On the morning of December 22, 2024, the head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, reaffirmed Mexico's stance as a free, sovereign, and independent country, and categorically declared that external interference will not be accepted. In this context, the program 'Mexico Embraces You' was presented, designed to provide support to nationals repatriated due to deportation decisions made by the Government of the United States.
As part of this program, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, detailed that necessary resources will be allocated for the care and defense of repatriated Mexicans, aiming to facilitate their reintegration into their country of origin. Nationals returning to Mexico will be able to access various social support programs, including pensions for the elderly and disabled, as well as assistance for working mothers and various health assistance programs.
In addition to offering support to nationals, the program 'Mexico Embraces You' also includes the extension of benefits to the families of deported migrants, including scholarships for higher education and media, such as scholarships for Benito Juárez Universities, the Universal Rita Cetina Scholarship, and others. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive support to those affected by deportation processes from the United States to Mexico.
In contrast to the unilaterally announced measures by Donald Trump, President of the United States, regarding the declaration of a national emergency at the border with Mexico to stop illegal migration and the classification of drug cartels as terrorist organizations, the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated its rejection of such initiatives, which it considers intrusive. In Sheinbaum's words, "We will never subordinate ourselves." In response to Trump's decisions, the support and reintegration program 'Mexico Embraces You' is being implemented to provide assistance to repatriated nationals and their families.
