The Mexican government introduced the 'Mexico Embraces You' program to assist returning migrants with financial support and healthcare access. It includes the Bienestar Paisano card providing 2,000 pesos. The program also facilitates identity document assistance and IMSS health services.

New Support Program for Returning Mexican Migrants

In the morning conference on January 20, Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, presented the 'Mexico Embraces You' program, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, which aims to provide support to returning Mexican migrants in the face of possible mass deportations following Donald Trump's arrival to the Presidency of the United States. Part of this program is the delivery of the Bienestar Paisano card, which will grant 2,000 pesos to migrants to facilitate their transfers to their home communities.

Sheinbaum mentioned that this support will be unique and its functioning will be evaluated to determine whether it will be maintained or increased in the future. In addition to the financial support, the 'Mexico Embraces You' program includes other benefits for migrants returning to the country, including help in obtaining identity documents, access to healthcare services by enrolling them in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), and legal support for their integration into the country.

Among the additional benefits, the program includes the protection of migrants and their families through enrollment in the IMSS, which offers medical care in various areas. This enrollment allows access to Health and Maternity Insurance, as well as other services provided under the Social Security Law. This scheme also includes benefits for spouses, children, parents, and partners of repatriated migrants.

The Mexican government, in response to possible policies of mass deportation by the Donald Trump administration, has designed strategies such as the 'Mexico Embraces You' program to support nationals returning to the country. The Bienestar Paisano card, as part of this program, aims primarily to assist migrants with immediate financial support of 2,000 pesos, as well as provide them access to free healthcare services and the opportunity to integrate into state social programs.

Although a specific call has not yet been opened, it has been reported that Mexican migrants facing deportation from the United States and those needing financial support and healthcare services upon returning to Mexico will be able to access the Bienestar Paisano Card. The Welfare Secretariat will be responsible for registering and delivering these cards, requiring documentation such as birth certificates, CURP, repatriation letter, and identification.

In addition to financial support, migrants will benefit from free transportation to their home communities, assistance with obtaining official documents, job orientation, access to vaccines, and other necessary medical benefits. They will also be incorporated into various social welfare programs, including the Pension Welfare for the elderly, programs for people with disabilities, youth, women, and other benefits focused on the well-being of the repatriated migrant population in Mexico.
