The Gender Identity Law is close to being approved in the local Legislature, according to the announcement made by Deputy Guillermo Vega Guerrero, who is the president of the Administration and Justice Procurement Commission. Approval is expected to take place in February, as there are no foreseeable obstacles to its implementation.
This law, which will allow the change of gender on the birth certificate and the preservation of the original certificate, has been a historical demand from various LGBTI+ community groups. These groups have advocated for modifications to the state Civil Code on four occasions. Vega Guerrero emphasized that, despite significant progress in this initiative, the electoral process has delayed its approval. However, he assured that this time the matter will be addressed promptly, as it is a personal procedure that is already being carried out through legal protections.
At this moment, it is considered unnecessary to hold forums, but to proceed with the drafting of a ruling.
"Every day that goes by is one day less for this law to become a reality," declared Vega Guerrero.
