Senate Raffle for Judicial Candidates Amid Resistance

In the Senate of Mexico, there are issues in the process of selecting candidates for the Judiciary, following resistance in the judiciary, the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation (TEPJF) has authorized the upper house to carry out a lottery to select the candidates.

Tensions around this issue have arisen after suspensions granted by judges that halted the selection process of the Evaluation Committee. There is a deadline until the 31st to carry out this draw, and the upper house has confirmed that it will proceed with the process next Friday, even if some candidates have not been considered suitable.

In other news, Mexico has seen a significant increase in asylum requests from migrants, as a result of the plan implemented by Trump in the United States. Applicants are overwhelming the offices of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar) seeking options to stay in the country. Experts point out the need to establish a comprehensive asylum policy and allocate more resources to meet this growing demand.

Additionally, reports indicate that raids conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have resulted in the detention of an average of 31 people per hour. With the support of agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and ATF, 3,014 arrests have been made while 4,000 deported individuals have been reported. Meanwhile, Trump has ordered the adoption of a system similar to Israel's Iron Dome.

On another note, Mexican exports reached a record in 2024, amounting to 617.099 billion dollars, although imports also experienced a 4.5% annual increase, reaching 625.311.8 billion dollars.
