Electoral Tribunal Upholds Constitutional Process

The president magistrate of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), Mónica Soto Fregoso, stated that it is essential to comply with the Constitution, regardless of personal preferences towards it. She emphasized that the current process is complicated and different from a traditional election, so she trusts in the citizenship to carry it out correctly.

In an interview, Soto Fregoso explained that the TEPJF will act within its constitutional powers to resolve any challenges that may arise, ensuring that the agency will strictly adhere to the law and the Constitution at all times.

The order issued to the Senate to select the candidates for judicial positions through a lottery was described by Soto Fregoso as the recognition that all applicants are eligible. She highlighted that they are facing a complex process, but expressed confidence in the ability of the citizenry to actively participate in it.

The magistrate defended the decision of the TEPJF to compel the evaluation committee of the Judicial Power to resume its functions, indicating that it acted in accordance with the Constitution and that the judicial suspensions issued were not within the jurisdiction of the judges who ordered them.

Soto Fregoso stressed that the TEPJF is the highest authority on electoral matters and clarified that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation cannot intervene in its decisions. Regarding criticisms about the lack of review of the candidates' suitability, the magistrate argued that, having met the legal requirements initially, all were granted the status of eligible.

Regarding possible future scenarios, especially in relation to the actions of the Supreme Court, Soto Fregoso preferred not to comment, noting that it will be necessary to wait for events to unfold.
