Governor of Campeche Layda Sansores is facing significant political challenges. The Supreme Court struck down a reform to the Public Works Law that had allowed her to concentrate the power to grant construction permits without consulting the 13 municipalities of the state. This comes as her popularity has plummeted; she is now ranked 26th out of 32 governors nationally, with an approval rating of just 42%. At the same time, the rector of the Autonomous University of Campeche was arrested, an event that was condemned by President Claudia Sheinbaum, who stated that justice cannot be used as a political vendetta.
