Minister Ríos Farjat requests candidate selection from the PJF

Minister Margarita Ríos Farjat requested the president of the SCJN to take responsibility for selecting candidates for the Judicial Branch. This comes after the resignation of the Evaluation Committee and the Senate's decision that could affect the suitability of the candidates. There are concerns that fairness in the electoral process may be compromised. Lists of suitable candidates must be submitted before February 7.

Minister Margarita Ríos Farjat requested the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, that the Full Chamber of the Supreme Court assumes the responsibility of selecting candidates for the Federal Judiciary (PJF) for the judicial election next June.

In a letter sent to Minister Piña, Ríos Farjat warned that after the resignation of the Evaluation Committee of the PJF and the resolution of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) that empowers the Senate of the Republic to conduct a lottery to define the PJF candidacies, there is a risk that the candidates do not meet the suitability requirement established in the call for the judicial election.

"Equity in the competition could be compromised due to the drawing of registered candidates before the Evaluation Committee of the PJF who presumably meet the eligibility requirements," the minister considers.

Since the Judiciary must submit lists of suitable candidates by February 7 at the latest, the Full Chamber could assume this responsibility and ensure that the selected individuals have the best profiles and capabilities.
