Increase of Criminal Groups in Puebla

The Secretary of Public Security (SSP) of Puebla, Francisco Sánchez González, acknowledged the presence of seven national criminal groups in the state, among which stand out the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Sinaloa Cartel, and La Familia Michoacana, as well as local gangs dedicated to gas and fuel theft.

In an interview, the vice admiral mentioned that these cartels have been operating in Puebla for at least seven years and that their influence has been increasing. The organized crime groups with the greatest presence in the region are identified as La Barredora (an CJNG cell), Sinaloa Cartel, and La Familia Michoacana.

"We have the Sinaloa Cartel, La Familia Michoacana, and local groups dedicated to huachicol and huachigas. We know who leads them; in total, there are about seven strong groups," Sánchez González expressed. Although he acknowledged that the presence of these criminal groups is a cause for concern, he assured that the SSP is working on a coordinated strategy with the federal government, which has yielded positive results.

The official also admitted the importance of implementing new security strategies to address the evolution of criminal methods, as "criminals are also innovating."
