The Senate of the Republic will carry out today the first lottery to select the first candidates for the judicial election, following the guidelines ordered by the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation. The Board of Directors will be responsible for conducting the lottery and selecting the winners of the various judicial candidacies, starting with district judges, circuit magistrates, members of the Judicial Discipline Tribunal, magistrates of the federal Electoral Tribunal, magistrates of the Superior Chamber, and ministers.
Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate, reported that the candidacies to be raffled correspond to those proposed by the Judiciary. At the conclusion of the lottery, a list will be published in the Official Journal of the Federation. The lottery will take place in the Senate Session Hall in Mexico and will be broadcasted by the Channel of Congress.
The candidate selection process will be based on gender parity and will consider the specialty of each applicant. Each candidate will have a number that will be placed in the sphere of the lottery, ensuring that there are no repeated numbers. The lottery must conclude by January 31 at the latest, and the final list of candidates will be sent to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation for validation.
In the event that the Court does not accept the candidates, the Senate may refer them directly to the National Electoral Institute for registration. The rules of the lottery were previously communicated to the TEPJF. It is expected that the National Electoral Institute will approve the model of ballot papers for magistrates and district judges.
