Gabriela Jiménez Aims to Create New Party

Federal deputy Gabriela Jiménez seeks to establish her movement "Let Democracy Continue" as a party to confront electoral reforms that raise uncertainty in Morenismo. This initiative is a response to the perception of control over candidacies and the lack of political spaces in light of possible reforms affecting the 2027 elections.

Gabriela Jiménez Aims to Create New Party

Federal deputy Gabriela Jiménez has privately expressed that she has the support of governors, mayors, and Morena officials to establish her movement "Let Democracy Continue" as a new political party. This movement was created with the aim of carrying out the recall of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Within the ruling party in Mexico, there is concern regarding the fate of the electoral reforms proposed by Claudia Sheinbaum and the perception of a supposed dual command between Palacio Nacional and Palenque. These issues have led to discussions about the need to create new political parties to have room for maneuver if re-elections are not allowed or if control over future candidacies from the ruling party is reinforced, especially by Andy López Beltrán.

The movement led by Jiménez arises as a reaction to these speculations and concerns. Examples such as Félix Salgado's desire to be governor of Guerrero or Ricardo Gallardo in San Luis Potosí yielding the governorship to his wife highlight the complexity of the situation.

There is also the issue of the possible elimination of plurinominal candidacies, which have been the reason for the existence of the Green Party, an ally of Sheinbaum. Although these reforms may not take effect until 2030, Sheinbaum would seek for Morena to adopt them unilaterally as soon as possible.

In this context, Deputy Jiménez, who has experienced a distancing from Sheinbaum, seeks to promote the creation of a new political party as an alternative for those who may feel harmed by internal reforms or the control exercised by Andy López Beltrán. Jiménez's initiative is not conceived as an individual project but as part of the need to have more open spaces aligned with the principles of the 4T.
