According to sources consulted by the editorial team, the national leadership of Morena is focused on two key electoral objectives for 2025: the municipal elections in Durango and Veracruz. The strategy would include the participation of important figures from the federal command to ensure the victory of the ruling party in the major cities of these states.
The electoral process is more advanced in Durango compared to Veracruz. In Durango, the candidacies are already confirmed: José Ramón Enríquez in the capital, Betzabé Martínez Arango in Gómez Palacio, and Flora Isela Leal Méndez in Lerdo.
In Veracruz, the scenario is not yet defined, and it is expected to be determined soon. The national leadership, led by Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, is considering temporarily relocating to both states to closely coordinate the campaigns.
The intention is not only to win the municipal elections this year but also to lay the groundwork for the state elections of 2028, when Morena will seek to defeat the PRI in Durango for the first time. Although there are internal tensions with the PT regarding the distribution of candidacies, the party remains optimistic about polls indicating an advantage in the major cities of Durango and Veracruz.
With the goal of achieving a strong territorial and electoral operation, it is contemplated that the main figures of Morena will leave Mexico City and temporarily establish themselves in Durango and Veracruz. The plan is to conquer as many municipalities as possible in both states.
These elections will serve as an initial test of the power of the new leadership of Morena, which seeks to obtain the highest number of victories for the ruling party. Additionally, the signing of a coalition with the Green Party, excluding the PT, is highlighted as part of the political strategy for this electoral process.
