Mexican journalist Antonio Nieto shared details on his personal account about the torture video that victimized influencer "Fofo" Márquez at the Barrientos Penitentiary. According to Nieto, Márquez's presence in that environment was due to his public influence and the financial resources of his family. The incident of beating by the guards reflects a common problem in the country’s prisons: extortion.
Nieto pointed out that Óscar Espinoza Mata, alias "El Puma", former commander of the General Directorate of Prevention and Social Reintegration of the State of Mexico, was identified as the possible responsible party for the torture video. He explained that the physical assaults had two motivations, one of which was related to the demand for 5 million pesos from Márquez's mother, according to investigations.
The video in question is not recent but dates back to April 2024, as Nieto reported, debunking the notion that it was generated by Artificial Intelligence. At that time, Rodolfo Márquez was admitted to the penitentiary for an attempted femicide charge. The journalist emphasized that high-profile economic prisoners are often targets of extortion by guards, thus generating large sums of money for corrupt officials.
The incident was not a strategy by lawyers but an action directed against the new leadership of the Penitentiary System and a way to intimidate Márquez's family. According to Nieto, in the admission area of the prison, new inmates face payment demands for various concepts.
