The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) decided to postpone for one week the debate on the contradictory orders received by the Judicial Evaluation Committee to stop or continue the selection of candidates for the first judicial election. During the public session this Thursday, the project was presented that proposes to invalidate the rulings of the Electoral Tribunal in order to advance the Judicial Election.
Ministers Yasmín Esquivel, Lenia Batres, and Loretta Ortiz requested a one-week postponement to allow the Electoral Tribunal to present a report required by the Court. They argued that it is crucial to have all the necessary information and safeguard the transparency of the process. The presenting minister, Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena, initially proposed addressing the issue without waiting for the Electoral Tribunal's document, but ultimately agreed to wait for the report to analyze it.
President minister Norma Piña and minister Alberto Pérez Dayán expressed that the issue could be discussed that same day, although they did not oppose waiting for the requested report. It is expected that the session on this matter will take place on Thursday, February 13.
--- "The project implies a total reformulation of the ongoing selection process," Minister Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena pointed out. "We need to carefully examine all the implications before proceeding."
