The former PAN deputy and presidential candidate, Gabriel Quadri, received his Pension of Wellbeing for Older Adults and celebrated the event despite previous criticisms for requesting it. Quadri defended his right to access the social program, despite having criticized it for years. In a statement on November 22, Quadri expressed his discontent with the government's actions, calling it shameful to use social programs to buy votes, violate citizens' privacy, and repress the opposition.
The former candidate had previously shown annoyance when photographed requesting the pension and mentioned that he had not done so before due to his position as a federal deputy. Despite his past criticisms of the program, Quadri justified his decision arguing that he has the right to access this benefit by contributing through taxes.
Claudia Sheinbaum, the president, criticized what she deemed Quadri's hypocrisy in joining the program after questioning it. In response to the criticisms, Quadri claimed to be harassed and reaffirmed his ethical right to receive the pension. He continues to oppose the Government and uses his social media to point out the expenses of Sheinbaum's administration.
Despite the criticisms received for requesting the pension, Quadri stated that accepting it will not change his political stance and accused the Government of using social programs for electoral purposes. In his statements, he mentioned that these programs are part of a machinery for political and ideological indoctrination.
Additionally, Gabriel Quadri has expressed in the past his opposition to the social programs implemented by the López Obrador and Sheinbaum government, considering them as widespread subsidies. In other comments, Quadri has been sanctioned for transphobic expressions, linking them to speeches by personalities like Donald Trump and Javier Milei.
