Removal of Uriel Carmona in Morelos

The Government of Morelos requested the State Congress for the dismissal of Uriel Carmona Gándara, the state's attorney, after he presented a petition for the impeachment of Cuauhtémoc Blanco, a federal deputy and former governor. With 16 votes in favor and 4 against, the legislators determined that Carmona Gándara no longer met the legal requirements to remain in office.

In statements to El Financiero, Uriel Carmona Gándara stated that he will defend himself according to the law, as he believes there are no serious reasons justifying his dismissal. The request for the attorney's removal was presented by Héctor García Chávez, head of the office of the governor of Morelos, to the State Congress.

After the vote that determined the departure of Carmona as attorney, the Congress of Morelos requested the presentation of a shortlist proposed by Governor Margarita González to fill the position. It is worth noting that the attorney had previously been detained on accusations from the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City, but after a legal process, he regained his freedom and returned to his position.

Uriel Carmona lost the immunity that provided him legal protection, making him susceptible to new arrests for possible acts of corruption. Despite the opposition from some deputies, his dismissal was considered urgent due to his lack of reliability and his connection to legal processes for various crimes.

Regarding the impeachment of Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Uriel Carmona explained that the Attorney General's Office of Morelos acted upon an accusation of attempted rape made by Blanco's half-sister. The evidence presented was deemed sufficient to initiate legal proceedings against him.

The deputies of Morelos unanimously appointed Edgar Antonio Maldonado Ceballos as the new attorney general of the state, replacing Uriel Carmona. Maldonado Ceballos, who served as the legal advisor to the Government of Morelos, will hold the position for the next 9 years. Lawyers Leonel Díaz, Edgar Antonio Maldonado Ceballos, and Fernando Blumenkron Escobar made up the shortlist for this appointment.
