Last Thursday, the Congress of Morelos approved the dismissal of prosecutor Uriel Carmona Gándara with 16 votes in favor. The decision was made in response to a request from Governor Margarita González, who argued that Carmona Gándara did not meet the requirements for the position due to irregularities in the investigation of the femicide of Ariadna Fernanda.
During the ordinary session, it was highlighted that the dismissal of the prosecutor was announced on the same day that former governor Cuauhtémoc Blanco was accused of attempted rape by his half-sister. Despite this context, President Claudia Sheinbaum praised the Congress's decision in her morning conference on Friday, stating that Carmona had protection from previous authorities.
Sheinbaum recalled the case of the femicide of Ariadna Fernanda, implicating the former prosecutor in alleged acts of cover-up of the responsible parties. She showed a video in which Carmona mentioned a bronchoaspiration as the cause of death of the young woman, questioning the period of insecurity in Morelos under his management and the lack of results in the investigations.
Following the dismissal, the Congress of Morelos appointed Edgar Antonio Maldonado Ceballos as the state's attorney general. The governor presented a shortlist for the position, where Maldonado Ceballos was approved with 20 votes in favor in an ordinary session.
