The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, responded to the memorandum from the United States Department of Justice, which demands the complete elimination of drug cartels, urging them to start by doing their part in their own country.
Amid the deployment of 10,000 members of the Mexican National Guard at the border with the United States to combat drug and migrant trafficking, as part of the agreement reached between Sheinbaum and Trump to avoid tariffs, this new document highlights the need to review national security and anti-drug strategies to completely eradicate cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
In her morning press conference, Sheinbaum made it clear that Mexico is willing to coordinate and collaborate, but will not accept subservience or interference, insisting on the importance of the United States also taking responsibility in combating the trafficking of arms into Mexico, a crucial aspect in the fight against drug trafficking.
The Mexican leader emphasized that it is essential to understand how cartels operate and how drugs illegally cross both sides of the border, pointing out the need for real and effective coordination between both countries to address this issue comprehensively and effectively.
