Mexico Launches 'Operation Border' to Secure Borders

Following discussions with President Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the immediate deployment of 10,000 National Guard members to bolster border security. This initiative aims to curb drug trafficking and illegal immigration, with operations yielding significant arrests and drug confiscations.


Mexico Launches 'Operation Border' to Secure Borders

After the controversies surrounding tariffs and the strengthening of the border wall, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, held a conversation with President Trump to address the challenges they faced with the flow of migrants. In this meeting, it was agreed that Mexico would reinforce the northern border with 10,000 elements of the National Guard immediately to prevent drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States.

Following this agreement, 'Operation Border' was launched in collaboration with the Secretary of National Defense, the National Guard, and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection. As of February 3, 10,000 members of the National Guard and the Army were deployed to strengthen security at the northern border of the country to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration to the United States.

Regarding the results of Operation Border, since its inception on February 5, 116 people have been arrested, and 35 firearms have been seized (15 of them coming from the United States), 8,462 cartridges of various calibers, 186 magazines, 16.538 kg of marijuana, and 380.017 kg of cocaine, according to Mexican authorities.

In each of the northern states that share a border with the United States, the following results were reported:

- Baja California: 18 people arrested, 8 firearms seized, and more than 15 kg of methamphetamine. - Chihuahua: Seizure of three firearms and three vehicles. - Coahuila: Two people arrested with doses of marijuana and methamphetamine. - Nuevo León: Six people arrested, three firearms seized, and four vehicles. - Tamaulipas: One person arrested and one firearm seized, along with four vehicles. - Sonora: 18 people were arrested, five firearms secured, and 1.096 kg of marijuana, nine vehicles, and three properties were seized.
