New Initiative to Regulate Technology in Mexico

An initiative presented by Senator Agustín Dorantes seeks to analyze the power of technological advancement in order to direct it towards the construction of a more just, prosperous, secure, and equitable Mexico. This proposal, which has been forwarded to the appropriate Commission for analysis, aims to amend Articles 1, 6, and 73 of the Constitution to allow the Congress of the Union to legislate uniformly across the country, preventing states from legislating independently and with contradictory laws in the future.

The initiative also includes the creation of a National Agency for Intelligence and Cybersecurity. Senator Agustín Dorantes emphasized to his colleagues the potential of Artificial Intelligence as a tool for unprecedented economic development in various sectors. However, he mentioned that if not regulated, Artificial Intelligence could affect up to 40 percent of jobs worldwide, according to estimates from the International Monetary Fund.

"That is why today I present this initiative," stated Senator Dorantes. The goal is for Mexico not only to adopt technology but to use it to build a better future for all citizens. The proposal aims to guide technological development in a way that equitably benefits Mexican society.
