The former mayor of Santo Tomás de los Plátanos, Pedro Luis "N", along with his wife, María del Rosario "N", were involved in a series of events that have generated controversy. On June 5, the father-in-law of a complainant was released after 24 days of kidnapping at the hands of organized crime members. According to the complaint, members of La Familia Michoacana focused on collecting voter IDs in communities such as Santa Bárbara and Las Fincas to ensure the victory of "El Wicho" in the 2024 elections.
On two occasions, Pedro Luis "N" managed to evade authorities, primarily during the operation "Swarm" in the south of the State of Mexico. A warning was issued stating: "If you value your life, do not aspire to be the municipal president of Santo Tomás, La Familia Michoacana and Pedro Luis Hernández de Paz govern here." Following threats and pressure from organized crime, a person identified as Teresa "N" was forced to withdraw from the political race.
María del Rosario "N" is being prosecuted for the alleged crime of extortion. On the other hand, Pedro Luis "N" has been linked to a process and was subjected to justified preventive detention. There are investigations suggesting possible links between "El Wicho" and La Familia Michoacana, with a total of four investigation files opened for the crimes of kidnapping and extortion.
The probable crime of extortion would have been committed against Teresa "N" in the context of her candidacy for the parties Morena, PVEM, and PT for the mayoralty of Santo Tomás de los Plátanos. A telephone conversation cited in the file reveals threats directed at the candidate to force her to abandon her candidacy.
