Claudia Sheinbaum Addresses INAI Corruption Case

The President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, spoke out about the sanctions imposed on two officials from the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) for alleged corruption. The situation arose following a complaint filed by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), which accused the employees of soliciting favors in exchange for reducing economic sanctions.

During a morning press conference, Sheinbaum stated that if the responsibility of those involved is proven, they will have to face administrative and criminal sanctions. The governor emphasized that "the corrupt is not a public servant," pointing out that a true public servant must serve the government and the people, and those who engage in acts of corruption do not meet these fundamental principles.

The removal of Jonathan Mendoza Iserte, head of the Personal Data Secretariat, and Miguel Novoa Gómez, General Director of Rights Protection and Sanction, was unanimously approved by the INAI plenary on February 12 to facilitate investigations and preserve trust in the institution, according to the president of INAI, Adrián Alcalá.

The officials were accused of soliciting money and tickets for the 2026 World Cup in an attempt to influence sanctions against the FMF. Sheinbaum reaffirmed the authorities' commitment to transparency and justice, assuring that any public servant involved in acts of corruption will be sanctioned according to the law.

The decision to remove these officials generated interest in public opinion, and it is expected that investigations will continue their course and that, if necessary, the corresponding sanctions will be applied.
