Pedro Haces Barba is a prominent figure in Mexican politics and unionism. He has held various leadership positions in important unions, such as the National Union of Private Security Workers, Surveillance, Value Transfers, Manufacturing of Security Equipment, Cleaning and Maintenance, Similar and Related Trades of the Mexican Republic. He has also played a leading role in the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM).
In the political sphere, Haces was a senator for proportional representation under the Morena party and was most recently appointed Coordinator of Political Operations for the Morena Parliamentary Group in the Chamber of Deputies. His career in the PRI included significant roles such as political advisor and the presidency of the Financing Committee of the State Directing Committee of the party in Mexico City in 2013.
However, he has recently been the subject of accusations by journalist Anabel Hernández, who links him to drug trafficking, specifically to the Sinaloa Cartel and as a frontman for the Beltrán Leyva brothers, former leaders of a major cartel in Mexico. These allegations are based on testimonies and evidence suggesting a direct relationship between Haces and figures in organized crime.
Hernández's accusations also point to the inexplicable fortune of Pedro Haces, which has raised questions due to its dubious origin. Despite his experience in various government and union positions, Haces' wealth has generated controversy, particularly as there is no convincing explanation for his multi-million dollar properties. The journalist has urged a thorough investigation into Haces' finances, whom she has labeled a "political cynic" in relation to his alleged involvement with drug trafficking.
