The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) sanctioned seven players from the Liga Expansión MX and Liga Premier MX for alleged match manipulation in the 2024-2025 Season. The names of the athletes under investigation have not been revealed. It is indicated that those involved were making illegal bets for financial gain, undermining the integrity of the competitions.
The manipulated matches involve illegal betting and intentional loss of matches. The involved clubs, Real Apodaca FC and Correcaminos UAT, have been notified of the sanctions their players will receive and a recommendation from the Disciplinary Commission. In case of recurrence, they could face the disaffiliation of the Club.
The sanctions imposed by the FMF are severe: one player from each team receives a 16-year suspension from any activity related to professional football, while three players from Real Apodaca FC receive 7 years and two players from the same team receive 2 years of suspension each. In total, they add up to 57 years of sanction in which they will not be able to perform any activity.
The FMF reported that it will notify FIFA about the sanctions so that they have international effect. The Disciplinary Commission will continue investigating possible cases of match manipulation that violate FIFA and FMF regulations. Real Apodaca and Correcaminos UAT have taken measures by separating the involved players from their squads.
Real Apodaca will cooperate with the competent authorities to take appropriate actions, while Correcaminos UAT has already definitively separated the player involved in the betting case. The FMF has imposed a total sanction of 57 years on the seven players involved in the match manipulation case. FIFA will be kept informed of these actions to preserve the integrity of football competitions in Mexico.
