Last Monday, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, met with the leader of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, to discuss the latest reforms proposed by the Executive regarding security, intelligence, and judicial investigation. Monreal highlighted the secretary's willingness to appear before the deputies and explain the content of the initiatives presented by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
During the meeting, Monreal praised García Harfuch as a dedicated and effective Security Secretary, committed to his work and focused on the tasks assigned by the president. The coordinator of the Morena deputies emphasized the importance of reviewing and approving proposals to combat forgers and usurpers of weapons, uniforms, and police credentials.
The initiative currently in the Chamber of Deputies aims to develop a national research and intelligence system to reduce the incidence of crimes, especially high-impact ones. It proposes coordinating various government agencies and private entities to neutralize the generators of violence and criminal networks.
In the meeting, urgent measures necessary to contain crime and reinforce public security in the country were discussed. García Harfuch suggested that the new proposed laws would allow for the provision of technology and modern methods for crime investigation, as well as establishing effective coordination between public and private institutions in the pursuit of crimes. Monreal emphasized the importance of providing a legal framework for the use of technological instruments in the fight against organized crime, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated.
