Martí Batres Guadarrama, director of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), reported in a press conference alongside President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo about alleged cases of corruption linked to the ISSSTE Foundation A.C. According to Batres, this foundation allegedly benefited improperly from spaces and resources belonging to the institute.
During the presentation of the biweekly health report, Batres revealed that the ISSSTE Foundation A.C. obtained 27 spaces designated for cafeterias and vending machines, of which 15 were leased to third parties. As a result, it is stated that the profits generated were not reinvested for the benefit of the institution despite the initial investment by the State. As a consequence of this situation, complaints have been filed with the Attorney General's Office and the Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Secretariat.
The ISSSTE Foundation was established in 2016 and, according to Batres's complaint, allegedly made use of spaces belonging to ISSSTE, including offices within the facilities, without records of contracts or formal agreements.
In addition to occupying spaces, it is claimed that the foundation received five million pesos in 2017, with no record of their destination. These funds were previously designated for the purchase of equipment for ISSSTE.
So far, in the administrative area, there are no records of possible donations received through the ISSSTE Foundation, and the legal area also lacks documentation supporting the operations carried out by this foundation. Everything points to the foundation acting independently and without following the protocols established by the institution.
