The executive order of President Donald Trump that declares the drug cartels in Mexico as terrorists will bring serious economic consequences for our country, warned the leader of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal. He expressed that, although it is a unilateral order, he trusts that President Claudia Sheinbaum will know how to face this measure.
"Mexico has always lived under harassment from the past, and now, by declaring criminal organizations as terrorists, it will have consequences," Monreal insisted. He called on the United States to recognize the presence of U.S. cartels in Mexico, pointing out that just as Mexico combats the cartels, the United States must also recognize and confront this reality.
Monreal highlighted the strengthening of the security strategy by President Claudia Sheinbaum, mentioning that legal initiatives have been sent for analysis. He stressed the importance of relentlessly combating the cartels, without pacts or agreements.
In relation to the alleged links of some governors with organized crime, Monreal expressed confidence in their responsible actions and their ability to face any circumstance firmly. He also highlighted the work of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) in detecting money laundering activities.
Regarding the economic implications of Trump's executive order, Monreal mentioned that it will affect many businesses that trade honestly with Mexico, as they will be financially impacted. He emphasized the importance of relentlessly combating the cartels to eradicate this scourge that seriously affects the nation.
