The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, mentioned that communication with the government of President Donald Trump is maintained with respect and coordination. A meeting is expected this Thursday between the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, and the Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, recently confirmed by the U.S. Congress. Lutnick will play a crucial role in economic matters such as trade, technology, and infrastructure.
Sheinbaum commented on the call between the head of the Mexican National Defense Secretariat and General Gregory Guillot, head of Northern Command of the U.S., highlighting the importance of communication and coordination at the border. The United States and Mexico have agreed to conduct coordinated patrols along the border, share information, and establish immediate communication methods to strengthen security.
Amid demands from the United States to combat fentanyl trafficking and migration flow at the border, Sheinbaum reported that the Secretary of Public Security of Mexico City, Omar García Harfuch, held a call with the U.S. Secretary of Security, Kristi Noem. Both officials are expected to meet soon to address border security issues and bilateral cooperation, respecting the sovereignty of each nation.
The meeting between the military leaders concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement at the border, with the expectation that more detailed discussions will be generated to ensure mutual security in the region.
