During the XLII FOPREL Meeting in Honduras, Senator Fernández Noroña advocated for the full defense of Mexico's sovereignty and respect for human dignity in immigration issues.

Mexico calls for unity against racism and classism

The President of the Senate of Mexico, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, urged parliamentarians from Central America and the Caribbean to unite against the immigration policies impacting the region, particularly those promoted by the United States under the presidency of Donald Trump.

During his participation in the XLII Ordinary Meeting of the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL), Fernández Noroña condemned the restrictive policies of the United States and denounced the criminalization of millions of Latin American migrants.

In his statements, the Mexican senator emphasized the importance of collaboration among Latin American countries to address common challenges such as migration, security, and social inequality. He highlighted that aggression toward any country or people paves the way for aggression against oneself.

Fernández Noroña also stressed that migrants significantly contribute to the economic development of the United States, but despite this, they are pursued as criminals. Furthermore, he rejected the racist view that, according to him, underpins U.S. immigration policies by considering that in the 21st century there are still those who believe in superiority based on skin color.

Ultimately, the senator insisted on the importance of regional solidarity and reaffirmed Mexico's commitment to defending its sovereignty against external pressures, urging neighboring countries to unite to protect their common interests.
