The Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, reported a 12% reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides from September 2024 to January 2025. January 2025 marked the lowest average since 2018, with a 17.4% decrease compared to January 2019.
Seven states account for 53.1% of intentional homicides, led by Guanajuato, followed by Baja California, the State of Mexico, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Michoacán, and Jalisco.
On another front, the disarmament initiative implemented by Sheinbaum was mentioned. The Citizen Council for Security and Criminal Justice highlighted that 20 Mexican cities rank among the 50 most violent in the world, with 7 in the top 10.
In a radio interview, José Antonio Ortega from the Council urged the enforcement of laws against organized crime to exit this ranking. He acknowledged an increase in the arrests of drug trafficking leaders and seizures of weapons.
Colima and Acapulco remain among the most violent cities, with high homicide rates. In contrast, Sheinbaum presents her security report bi-weekly and promotes the program 'Yes to disarmament, yes to peace.'
Sheinbaum emphasized that in January 2025, the lowest daily average of homicides since 2018 was recorded, attributing the progress to the coordination of the security cabinet.
