World Day of Social Justice in Mexico

Social justice involves eliminating inequality and preventing abuses in public spending, requiring direct interaction with citizens and the protection of human rights. Citizen participation is crucial to combat corruption and promote social and environmental equity in public policies. Superior oversight plays an essential role in this work by monitoring the proper use of public resources.

The Superior Audit Office of the Federation, a technical body of the Chamber of Deputies responsible for auditing federal public funds and government programs, contributes to the challenge of achieving social justice in Mexico. Other countries in the region are also focusing on comprehensive agendas to address social justice and inequality. The 2023 Account Results Report highlights the preventive work of superior oversight and the importance of transparency in the use of public resources.

Currently, inequality hampers global economic participation in many countries, and social justice is closely linked to oversight to address poverty and social exclusion. International organizations propose policies at both national and global levels to strengthen economic and environmental systems, particularly in developing nations with high poverty rates. World Social Justice Day, commemorated by the UN every February 20, reaffirms the commitment to promote principles of justice, equity, democracy, and accountability.

At the ASF, the Annual Public Account Results Report is presented on this day, highlighting the preventive work of oversight in the management of public resources and government policies. International attention to this issue has intensified due to geopolitical, economic factors and climate change, underscoring the importance of ensuring the proper use of public funds to achieve social justice.
