Rise in Kidnappings in Mexico: January 2025 Report

From December 2024 to January 2025, kidnappings in Mexico grew by 13.1%. Key states with rising incidents include Sinaloa, Veracruz, and Puebla, with severe cases of migrant abductions reported.


Rise in Kidnappings in Mexico: January 2025 Report

In Mexico, from December 2024 to January 2025, a significant increase in kidnapping cases has been observed. According to the organization Alto al Secuestro, in just one month, this crime experienced a growth of 13.1%. In December 2024, 190 kidnappings were recorded, while in January 2025, the number rose to 215 cases. Sinaloa, Veracruz, Puebla, Guanajuato, and Guerrero are the states where this crime occurs most frequently.

A report issued by Alto al Secuestro highlights the kidnapping of migrants, with a total of eight cases counted in January 2025, making Chihuahua and Chiapas the riskiest areas for undocumented individuals, followed by Oaxaca, Sonora, and Tamaulipas. There were also 5 mass kidnappings recorded with 34 victims in Chiapas, Mexico City, Hidalgo, Puebla, and San Luis Potosí during the same month.

The increase in kidnappings was mainly evident in Sinaloa, where organized crime gangs are in confrontation. In December 2024, 94 cases were reported, a number that increased to 115 in January 2025, reflecting a 20% rise.

On the other hand, there are entities in Mexico where no kidnapping cases are reported. According to Alto al Secuestro, Campeche, Coahuila, Colima, Durango, Querétaro, and Yucatán remain free of this form of crime.
