Judicial Reform in Jalisco Without Lotteries

The governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, assured that there will be no lottery for the election of positions in the Judicial Branch in the entity, but rather, they will focus on selecting candidates with the best profiles. To achieve this, they will rely on specialists who will apply several filters to ensure the suitability of the candidates who will reach the local Judicial Branch.

According to Lemus, this reform represents a professionalization of the state Judicial Branch in line with the federal reform. He highlighted the support of professionals and academics to carry out this process. The reform allows citizens from all over the country to aspire to positions in the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial powers, as long as they go through the lottery process. Only those admitted will appear on the election ballots for the Judicial Branch on June 1.

On the other hand, Lemus pointed out that it is complicated to carry out the renewal of positions in the Jalisco Judicial Branch in 2025 and predicted that these elections would be postponed until 2027. In that year, judges and magistrates will be renewed throughout the state, a decision that must be discussed by the deputies. From his perspective, the Government of Jalisco does not have enough time to conduct the state election in 2025.

This Tuesday, the governor will present his Judicial Reform proposal before Congress. According to Lemus, this proposal will be more aligned with citizen consultation than with the lotteries executed at the federal level, seeking a better selection of candidates for the Jalisco Judicial Branch.
